Litigation & Insolvency
Paul Morris has a wealth of experience in virtually all forms of litigation before the Courts and Tribunals of the Isle of Man, appearing in many of the high profile and ground breaking cases before the Courts over the last 28 years.
Paul was named as a Leader in his Field by Chambers UK 2011 and Chambers Europe 2010. He is recommended in Chambers Global 2009 “in terms of output, he remains an active presence on the Isle of Man litigation scene. His wide ranging practice incorporates asset tracing, trust litigation, judicial reviews and ADR, such as mediation and arbitration. Observers are keen to praise his courtroom prowess: He is extremely clever, never takes back his points and plays a hard, fair fight”. Legal 500 commends’ Paul Morris as being “very experienced and hands on in court”. PLC Which Lawyer? 2009, recommends Paul as a leader in his field and the Isle of Man Dispute Resolution team as a “solid litigation practice”.
Having qualified as an Advocate in 1981, Paul joined the firm in 1999 as Partner. Paul is Chairman of the Isle of Man Social Security and Disability Appeals Tribunal and Chairman of the Interception of Communications Tribunal. He also sits on the Financial Services Review Committee and is a member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Panel. Paul is past President of the Isle of Man Law Society and a member of Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).
Representative Work
Some examples of Paul’s litigation work include:
• Acted for the Government of Pakistan and Nigeria in their respective actions before the Isle of Man High Court seeking restitution of assets allegedly representing the proceeds of corruption by former politicians of each country.
• Recently appeared for the largest group of creditors including Clerical Medical, Royal Skandia, Norwich Union and AXA following the collapse and eventual liquidation of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander.
